Nutnfancy falls 'tree' with CS Recon Scout

Back

The most efficient way to fall your vertical deadwood on your backpack trips will be with a backpack saw like the "Sawvivor." However sometimes, like on day hikes, I just have a 7" survival knife like the Cold Steel Recon Scout. This video demonstrates that even this blade can fall a tree with a proper notching technique (and assuming that you don't have something better for the task). With its 1/4" thick, full flat ground blade, and re-profiling (20ยบ angle), good heft, great handle, and general toughness, the Recon Scout or the Trailmaster are excellent outdoor blades. SAFETY NOTE: Using sharp and deadly tools in the wilderness can be dangerous. One missed swing and you could cut an artery up there. These videos will show imperative common sense safety measures to keep YOU safe from your own blades (and falling timber). Accidentally cutting YOURSELF is the biggest danger you will face in the woods.
