Toen Bun Thoeun twee jaar oud was, viel hij in het vuur. Zijn oudere broertje paste op hem bij de buren, terwijl moeder op de markt stond en vader op het land werkte. Door zijn val in het houtvuur waarop gekookt werd, verbrandde hij zich lelijk aan zijn handen, voeten en gezicht. Zijn armen eindigen in stompjes. Toch slaat hij zich vrolijk door het leven: Bun Thoeun fietst zelf naar school en zit in de vierde klas. Hulp krijgt Bun Thoeun van zijn ouders, broer (13) en zus (7). Maar ook van het Liliane Fonds. Met € 85,65 zijn een handprothese, de schoolmaterialen en de nieuwe fiets van Bun Thoeun bekostigd. In dit filmpje kunt u zien hoe de handprothese werd gemaakt.
